From the Rectory
In the January issue I explained our intention to broaden the scope of the Pink Sheet now we have a little more space available. In this issue we are glad to include notices of Village Hall events. And there are also the Stoke Doyle Concert and the 7 Parishes Fete at Wadenhoe House which should be of widespread interest though organised by the churches.
But there is also another dimension. Although the focus of this newsletter is unashamedly the geographical area of the 7 parishes it serves, some events further afield deserve our special attention. The article about the two bishops is included for this reason.
I’ve often been struck by the way the Christian faith is rooted in a story attached to specific geographical locations – and yet has a concern for the entire planet. May we have a similar balanced outlook.
With all good wishes

Lent Bible Study
Lent Studies
This year during Lent we will be looking at six Old Testament Characters. We live in a world that is transfixed in following the lives of celebrities. These so called modern day heroes are sometimes the most unlikely personalities to be held up as role models for which we should aspire. Yet in the Old Testament we meet many examples of real flesh and blood people, real “characters”, mirroring our own strengths and weaknesses. They can provide us with a genuine example to follow.
Each Wednesday evening will be a stand-alone study of one character. You may wish to attend all the evenings but feel free to attend one or two if you prefer. Each study deals with a different biblical character linked with a theme relevant to our following Jesus today. We will read a particular biblical passage and then discuss it.
We shall meet at 7.45pm for an 8pm start and end at 9pm.

WADENHOE
Wadenhoe Village Hall has been fantastically maintained from the proceeds of 25 years of homemade cream teas. These were provided by a devoted group of ladies who fronted this operation and also were hugely involved in other fundraising activities for the hall.
After this length of time, they have decided, quite understandably, to pass the responsibility on to the next lot. I was hoping that we could ask you to be willing to offer a small amount of time each year and do your bit.
This wonderful hall is the village hall of not only Wadenhoe, but also Pilton, Stoke Doyle, Achurch, Lilford and Wigsthorpe. It is YOUR hall.
If you are interested to talk about how you could support this hall and the committee, please feel free to telephone me on 01832 72071, I am Catherine Belton the Chairman
Or, consider these options :
- Support the fund raising functions put on by the committee
- Consider booking the hall for your family events
- Give us your fundraising ideas
- Be willing to run a fundraising function
- Be prepared to put aside one Sunday during the summer months to help serve the cream teas.
(nb. Please don’t feel daunted by the prospect of what the cream tea option involves. You will be fully supported, but we are in need of helpers.)
Wadenhoe Village Hall – Forthcoming Events
Friday 12 March – live theatre - Those Magnificent Men - Captain John Alcock, dashing WW1 fighter pilot, and Lieutenant Arthur Whitten Brown, navigational genius with a gammy leg, huddled together in the tiny cockpit of their converted Vickers Vimy biplane.
Well known comedy writing duo Brian Mitchell and Joseph Nixon have turned the story of the race to conquer the skies over the Atlantic into a fast and furious performance. It is a tale of plucky British pioneers. New Perspectives have captured the spirit with 2 actors and a crate full of props.
The tickets are £6 for adults and £3 for children. The play starts at 7.30pm on Friday 12th March, with the bar open from 7.pm.
A TALE OF TWO BISHOPS
George Machumo the new Bishop of Bungoma. A link between the Anglican Dioceses of Peterborough and Bungoma in Kenya was formed by their two bishops following the Lambeth Conference of 1998. Bugoma’s first bishop-Eliud-has just become the Archbishop of Kenya presiding over 29 Dioceses. Around 30 individual churches and schools in the Bungoma diocese are linked with us for mutual support and encouragement, spiritually, socially, materially and financially. There have been several exchange visits. Bungoma is close to the Ugandan border, and is the name of the main town of 20,000. The undulating countryside is mostly lush and fertile, and three times the size of Northamptonshire.
Donald Allister the new Bishop of Peterborough. Meanwhile, following the death of Bishop Ian, Donald Allister will be installed just after Easter. His appointment will be especially welcome on account of his unusually long experience working at parish level.
