From the Rectory
Never ending jobs used to be likened to ‘painting the Forth Bridge’ – but not now – the bridge has just had modern state-of-the-art treatment so that it will need no more painting for the next 20 years,
So it might seem with our 7 church buildings. But this spring looks like a landmark. Since 2008 all 7 will, for example, have had major repairs to their roofs and electrical wiring (with new heating in Achurch and Clopton). Titchmarsh has had a new floor and seating (with toilets & kitchenette on the way), and that’s not to mention improvements in most churchyards or what Stoke Doyle are up to (see below).
But the list of urgent work is rapidly shortening. So this year is an opportunity for the hard-working Church Councils (PCCs) to turn their attention to other matters. The Annual meetings listed below are an opportunity to do just that)

Thank you
We’re very grateful to Ian Macleod for arranging floodlighting contributions and to Jill Macleod for dealing with Aldwincle linen and frontals for a great many years.
Now that the time has come for them to give up. I’d be more than willing to talk to anyone interested in taking these on. Likewise someone with IT skills who could help us with the Deanery website. At present we simply copy each issue of the Pink Sheet on to it every other month.

Recently Confirmed or thinking about Confirmation?
This is the normal route to full membership of the Church of England so anyone considering preparation for this should already be involve in worship somewhere among the local churches.
It is rare, but not impossible, for candidates to be aged under 12. But there is no upper limit.
I am happy to arrange tailor-made preparation for anyone who asks at any time of year.
Younger candidates may find our largely adult services a little difficult, but if you’re willing to travel there are options that may help.
Aldwincle normally has a ‘Friends and family’ service on the 1st Sunday in the month at 10.45 am
Titchmarsh has a ‘Family Service’ at 4.30pm on the 2nd Sunday
Thrapston Parish Church has a ‘Family Communion’ at 9.30am on the 3rd Sunday
Achurch has an informal Morning Service at 10.45am on the 4th Sunday. This pink Sheet always has up to date details.

Stoke Doyle
…has had a busy spell over Jan-Feb. Before Christmas thieves stole the last piece of lead church roof (over the vestry) which is now in process of repair-thanks to many who contributed to make up for the limit on insurance help.
The rear pews have been made moveable to provide a space near the entrance for displays, refreshments, children to roam, for socialising during concerts and before & after worship etc. And the newer organ is to be moved to the back of church while the older one is going to a new home. All this will free up space as the East end and recover its original appearance.
It means among other things there is at last room for the band the Rector has played in for 5 years to perform in one of these churches!
To celebrate all this there will be a
concert to which all are invited.

By popular request the best 'candidate' for our first screen at the village hall should be the latest adaptation of "Jane Eyre".
As some of you mentioned, period dramas are always quite popular, and on top of this the film features one of those famous actresses that attracts big audiences, the one and only dame Judi Dench.
