We started the new year with our Church coffee morning at the home of Sue and Richard Trow-Smith. The event was very well attended, with old and new faces happy to be able to catch up with our news and conversation. Our warm thanks to Sue and Richard for their welcoming hospitality, and a record £126.20p which will go to Church funds. Thank you also to all who supported this event.

Our Christmas Church Coffee Morning was held on 14th December at the home of Rosemary and John Grove. A very happy group enjoyed their warm hospitality with coffee, mince pies and sherry and some very enthusiastic voices singing carols to John Barratt’s piano accompaniment. Thank you John. We will be sending £102.10 to Church funds. Thank you to all who came: we look forward to your valuable support in 2012.

Our first Church Coffee Morning for 2012 will be at the home of Sue and Richard Trow-Smith in West Street on January 11th at 10.30 am: do please come along. We are including a bring and buy table, so bring along any Christmas presents you may like to ‘part’ with ! We also need additional volunteers to ‘host’ a coffee morning. Those who already invite us into their homes know that we help to set up and clear away too. Do contact me if you think you can help.

Members of the Royal British Legion King’s Cliffe Branch, the Nassington and King’s Cliffe Scout and Cub Group and the Stamford Air Cadets marched from the King’s Cliffe Ex-Servicemen’s and Social Club to King’s Cliffe Parish Church where the Service of Remembrance was very well attended.

Benefice Reader David Teall conducted the Service and gave the address. The prayers were led by Rev Karin Voth Harman and the lesson was read by Graham Scotney.

Gilbert Markley (RBL King’s Cliffe Branch), Andrew Howard (Parish Council), Ian Mackay (Scout Groups) and M. Blackshaw ( Air Cadets) laid wreaths of Remembrance. James Sardeson (Bugler) sounded the Last Post and Reveille. The collection of £247.57 was donated to the Poppy Appeal.

A Grand Total of £4,600.00 was collected during our Poppy Appeal this year with the following amounts from each village:

King’s Cliffe £2,550.26 Apethorpe £436.13

Woodnewton £29.30 Nassington £460.94

Yarwell £167.63 Fotheringhay £955.74

Many thanks to all those who took part - Door to Door Collectors, Village Shops, Public Houses, Local Schools etc. This was a marvellous result which showed an increase of £349.90 over the previous year.

Another year has gone by and we are enjoying life in Sidmouth. Josie is very active in the Methodist church enjoying the choir and Women’s Fellowship. Gerry has taken up water colour painting once again and is also a member of the men’s forum in Sidmouth. We both attend the Wesley Guild.

It has been wonderful seeing friends calling in on their travels and to take the opportunity to visit King’s Cliffe and to catch up with many. We are sorry to have missed some of you, but as the festive season approaches we will be thinking of you all and raise a glass to you, wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Happy New Year.
