The Wilton Diptich Richard 11 Worshipping the Virgin 1361

St Leonard's Church Apethorpe aims to make the love of God known to everyone who lives in the village, through lively worship and caring fellowship.

A large congregation of over 50 attended Remembrance Sunday at the war memorial followed by a service in the Church led by Rev Michael Whawell. Over £160 was collected for the British Legion.

Col Kerruish led the commendation and Lord Brassey laid a wreath together with one from RAF Wittering. Oundle School provided an excellent bugler.

Bishop John and Julia welcomed the PCC to a meeting at the vicarage, kindly giving the committee supper afterwards. Many thanks to them both.

The coffee Morning, held in the shooters cottage on the 15th had a disappointing turn out. However over £200 was raised for the church funds.

Bishop John gave an extremely interesting talk on “My life at the Vatican” which was well attended and thoroughly enjoyed by all.

The Church looked absolutely lovely for Sarah Kerruish’s wedding and we have been able to enjoy the flowers ever since. Now advent has begun they will be removed except for some arrangements for the Confirmation Service to be held on Sunday 7th. This is a benefice occasion and all are welcome.

We welcomed the Rev Jack McDonald to preach on the 30th November prior to taking up his appointment in Strasbourg.

Sunday the 21st will be a very special occasion combining a Baptism, Carols and Christingle at 3pm led by Canon Michael McAdam  (please note the time) It would be good to see the Church filled with lots of children.

Michael writes:

“Our carol service will be different this year. I have given the service a new look- fewer readings and Carols- because it is going to incorporate a Baptism. The candidate is coming all the way from Australia! The opportunity to conduct a Baptism in the context of the commemoration of the birth of Jesus was just too good to miss and I hope that the service- which will also include a Christingle element, will touch the hearts and minds in such a way as to enhance the meaning of Christmas for all of us.”

Richard Parkinson 470653 plans to organise Carol singing around the village on the night of the 23rd December at 7pm, please contact him on 470653 if you would like to take part

. We  wish you all a Joyful and Peaceful Christmas, and a very Happy New Year
