Rogation

In the absence of fields in the middle of Oundle, Rogation Sunday saw a group of stalwart walkers set off for Barnwell Country Park to hold a service led by Richard, our Vicar.  We walked round the park, stopping to sing hymns, listen to readings and pray for the land and our use of it.  Traditionally this is the time of year when country parishes “beat the bounds” and pray for the crops to be blessed.  We arrived back at the Kingfisher Lodge for a welcome hot drink.  The weather looked rather threatening at times but the sun shone and the large clouds skudded across the sky, giving us a pleasant walk.

60th Wedding Anniversary

On May 29th, Gwen and Tony Hayward celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary.  The next day, during the 10.30 Communion Service, they were given the freedom of the parish with rights to indulge in dubious activities such as grazing their geese in the Market Place and abseiling from St. Peter’s Steeple.  After the service they had a surprise party at Glapthorn Village Hall, attended by friends from St. Peter’s, the town and further afield.
