Alice Helps Build a School in the Kibera slums, Nairobi, Kenya
Return to Mission Support page Return to News page
Me and a school friend will be taking a trip of a lifetime to visit and experience life in the largest slum in the world. The Kibera Slums, Nairobi in Kenya holds over 1million people in the size of a large council estate. Kenya although surprisingly is a strong developing country still has major poverty spots. We are going with the organisation called Soap Box Communications Trust (www.soapboxtrust.com) who is a well established Christian organisation that also believes the families in the Kibera Slums deserve a better life than the one they are currently having.
Whilst out there our main project will be helping to build a school so they aren’t learning in the horrendous slum conditions. We will also be sharing experiences with the families in the slum and growing a relationship with these people, as their way of living will be totally different one to ours.
I truly believe that God is calling both me and my school friend to this place, not only to make the lives of the people we will be interacting with better but also to enrich and develop our lives, and experience life in a different way with God still at the centre. I strongly believe that this experience will change both our lives.
The trip costs £1500 each to cover the cost of the trip and building materials for the school, and any donations will be gratefully received, not only by us, but by the people whose lives we will be affecting. If you are able to give; please send donations by cash or cheque (made payable to SOAPBOX) to: Alice McMurdo, 11 Hillfield Road, Oundle, Peterborough, PE84QR, and I can forward them onto Soapbox. Many thanks in advance for your support and prayers.
