The Shine Project (cultural Olympiad) celebrating Northamptonshire's heritage through historic churches takes place from 7.30.  The church will be illuminated, there will be an exhibition, an audio-visual telling of the building's history and refreshments for all.  Do come. It promises to be a spectaculer evening and it's FREE!  While you are there, have a look at all the pictures which will be created by eight local primary schools for the BIG DRAW.  This is a universal project carried out all over England during October whereby groups of young people design pictures and display them in a building which is central to the community.  Oundle's NADFAS group is working to support Young Arts in this area and our aim is to offer schools and young people the opportunity to participate in such projects....and the Big Draw is our first collaborative effort.  The theme will be stained glass windows and we are displaying these in the church in the week beginning 22 nd October.  They should be stunning!  If there is anyone working with groups of young peoplewho would also like to participate, please contact Sue Thomas.

LogoSt Peter’s Church in Oundle is the setting this month for a hands-on multi-sensory show which will highlight the history and heritage of the building, its setting and the faith on which it is founded.

“The Shine” project involves a number of Northamptonshire’s key churches and on Saturday 22nd October the event comes to Oundle.

Also on display during the day and throughout the following week will be the results of “The Big Draw”. This project is part of a special nationwide arts scheme which has involved eight local schools. These include Oundle School, Prince William School and Oundle CE Primary School plus pupils from schools in surrounding villages.

Their combined talents will create a series of stunning stained glass windows to be hung in the church building as a centrepiece for “The Shine” project. Tryptich (triple windows), round and individual windows will be on show – with each one using a variety of artistic media. The public is invited to come along to the church to see the artwork.

“The Big Draw” is being organised by our own Sue Thomas. She said: “The schools and their art departments have all been so enthusiastic about this project which will demonstrate how they can work collaboratively to achieve work of the highest standard.”

It is hoped that “The Big Draw” locally will become an annual event. “The church family is very excited about this”, said Sue who was formerly the head of Laxton Junior School. “It is an excellent fit with the work of The Shine and of course the stained glass designs are ideally seen in this wonderful church setting” she added.

The day concludes with “The Shine’s” free audio-visual event in the church building starting at 7pm. A large audience from all over the county is expected to come along and get involved with interactive exhibits, view special illuminations while listening to music and singing from local choirs.
