“… when these things begin to take place, stand up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
[Luke 21:28.]

The four Gospels in our New Testament were selected by the early Church as fundamentally reliable descriptions of inspiring examples from Jesus’ life.  They were written for Christian communities facing pressures which made their faith in living like Jesus seem foolish.  Today, Advent Sunday, we change our normal weekly Gospel readings from St. Mark to St. Luke.

We would like to thank everyone for all the get-well messages and offers of help received following our motorcycle accident in August.  We were overwhelmed and touched by all the kindness shown.  Thank you very much.

A very big thank you to all who help to keep the church and churchyard in good order: the ‘Holy Dusters’ who assist with the church cleaning, the clock winder, the flower arrangers, the Parish Gazette deliverers, those who help with fund raising and many more too numerous to mention.  Thank you for all your help and support and best wishes for 2013.

The Remembrance Service was held in St Nicholas Church on Sunday 11th November.  The service was well attended and, thankfully, the weather remained fine and dry for the congregation to gather around the war memorial in the churchyard.  Rev Karin placed the wreath on the memorial on behalf of Bulwick, Blatherwycke and Laxton parishes.

Due to increasing postage costs and arthritic thumbs Gerald and I have decided to wish all our friends in King’s Cliffe a very Happy Christmas through The Gazette.

Another year has flown by and we are still enjoying all Sidmouth has to offer. Josie continues to sing in the church choir and she enjoys the Women’s Fellowship. Gerald attends the Men’s Forum and we both enjoy The Wesley Guild.

A great family evening was enjoyed by a happy crowd in the Rectory garden.  Our many thanks to Graham and his ‘rocketeers’ for giving us such a wonderful firework display and to Charles and Kevin for building a wonderful bonfire.

We all enjoyed mulled wine and hot dogs, a very big thank you to all who worked so hard on the night and before to make it a memorable evening.  A special thanks to Angie at the Post Office who ran a ‘box office’ for us for ticket sales.  We are able to give £994.48 to Church funds.  Thank you also to all who supported the evening with your attendance.

Advent and Christmas Worship

Across the Churches of our Benefice there are many special Advent and Christmas services and you will be very welcome at each of these. (Details can be found by clicking on services.) Most of all in our services we seek to make real the love of God.

A Reflection for Christmas

Jesus, you are born into the midst of life as it is and as one of us.

You are not protected from the troubles and tensions of the world;

The extremes of wealth and poverty,

The contradictions between city, town and country,
