Oundle Churches Youth Association (OCYA)
12%of our Mission Support goes to OCYA which aims to enable the churches to reach out to young people in Oundle and the surrounding villages. The youth worker, Nic Shaw, is employed to build relationships with these young people and to show them the Christian faith by his example and life.
Nic’s job is to work in the schools and in the community, bringing the Christian message to those who otherwise might not hear it, and, where possible, to initiate new expressions of worship for them and to bring them into our churches. He also works with young people in the Churches, so that they can be points of contact in the schools for other interested youngsters.

June 2011
Many thanks to all those who came along to our AGM on Sunday, it was a real encouragement to us all. Please note that Sunday Night Live, due for 26th June has had to be postponed. Unfortunately it has not turned out to be a great date for the bunch of local youth leaders who run this event. I will let you know about the new date as soon as I can. In the meantime – any more for Soul Survivor? Please don’t forget Chattabox – if you can help in anyway it would be appreciated and we need a mammoth team to set up and down as the marquee has to go up just before Chattabox and come down straight after in record time. I can pass any offers of help on. I also enclose a flier for the next Bushcraft event. Please note: the Bushcraft event has been moved to the 27th-28th August. This is being run by Ark but supported by Nic Shaw, OCYA’s Youth Worker who will be going along too.
To view the Bushcraft information below in the original flier format, please click on the attached file below the information.

PARENT AND CHILD
Bushcraft
Young people aged 8-14 who are willing to try something new, adventurous, fun and inspiring.
The course lasts for 24 hours, with a sleep over in shelters built by you in the woods.
The key subjects covered are:
Safety and hygiene • Cooking on open fires •
Shelter construction • String making •
Friction fire lighting • Wild food identification and preparation•
Bushcraft is a great tool for building confidence and self-esteem in young people.
The sense of adventure is within us all and conventional forms of education rarely meet the needs of young people who want to explore and try new things.
Bushcraft and survival based activities provide an excellent basis for helping people to understand social skills, team and personal development, as well as environmental issues.
Woodland Survival Crafts offers a comprehensive range of bushcraft survival courses designed to educate, challenge and inspire the young people.
Dave Watson, the founder of Woodland Survival Crafts says:
“The satisfaction we get seeing people overcome fears, gain confidence, work positively with their friends and come to terms with themselves and their abilities is the real issue as far as I am concerned, but the icing on the cake is when they gain a recognised certificate.”
Dave has a natural, easy style with children. His repertoire of shelter building, fire and string making, and giving them confidence to eat nettles and drink nettle tea are perfectly suited to children of all ages.
Course Date: 27th-28th August 2011
Total cost of Event £85/parent & child (extra child £40) Bursaries available.

Ark exists for young people.
At Ark we see ourselves as facilitators, providing opportunity where it otherwise wouldn’t exist.
We seek to provide and promote that opportunity by identifying need, to ensure that all whom we come in contact with have the chance to raise their aspirations and release their potential, especially, but not exclusively, through non-formal activities, holiday clubs, and sport.
