HOPE Outdoor Carol Service December 2011
Because of bad weather the carol service was held inside St James rather than in the churchyard as planned. The lighted hats competition had many shining entries and hot drinks were available afterwards.
HOPE 08 was a country-wide initiative which inspired Christians locally to get involved in various projects to serve their community. This didn’t finish at the end of 2008. Last year and right up to the present time we are doing even more together.
HOPE has had the effect of motivating local Christians to work together to show the love of God in our town. We are not trying to promote church or any particular denomination. We want to be a visible community of believers.
HOPE Together in Thrapston is an ongoing process of reaching out to the community:
By serving children and families with times of fun with Pancake Races in February, Charter Fair in June, Holiday Club in July and Light Parties at Halloween.
By serving newcomers to the town with Welcome Packs and Meet the Neighbours events.
By serving the older people with Holiday at Home in August and a Christmas Party.
By giving people the opportunity to hear the true story of the Gospel as in the live Nativity in the churchyard in 2008. During Holy Week in 2010 over 200 children and lots of adults heard and saw a slide show of the Story of Easter.
By opening up the church for a week and being available to talk to people about our faith.
Today many people don’t trust words anymore and often they have a very negative picture of God, the Church and Christians. This is such a shame!
We in “HOPE” want to change these perceptions not only by what we say but by our friendship and our actions.
Our mission is to ‘Catch the vision of God’s will for Thrapston.’
